The 'No Stitch' symbol is simply a placeholder in the chart for a stitch that will be created or for a stitch that was decreased. The 'No Stitch' symbol is used to fill in those empty spaces in the chart. It is often used in shawl knitting charts to display how the shawl expands in size as new stitches are added.
